My [livejournal.com profile] sshg_exchange gift was posted today.* And it is Awesome, as my subject implies. The reveal isn't for another week, so I don't know who wrote it yet, but for now, Dear Anonymous Writer, I thank you.

Title: Even Stopper Death
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: A couple of naughty-ish words
Summary: As a child, Hermione had been fascinated with Severus Snape's first year speech, but was it possible that he actually managed to stopper death?
Original Prompt(s): 1. Post-DH, EWE or however you can pull it off. Hermione can't see Thestrals. Snape's death is the only death she is absolutely, beyond-a-shadow-of-a-doubt sure she witnessed, and 3. A missing scene between Snape and Hermione sometime within the books.

Chapter One
Chapter Two

Now, to adopt this as my own personal canon, or not to adopt this as my personal canon...? Decisions,  decisions...

*Along with a huge number of others. Maybe I'll finally start to catch up.

You know what bugs me? When someone writes something like 'He ran his hands through his head.' No. Just... no. You can run your hands through your hair, but not your head or your face. Heads and faces are solid. You cannot run your hands through them. It just doesn't work, OK? I wish I could ignore it or not notice it in the first place, but it's one of those things I find completely distracting.

So... Since I've been getting nostalgic over Hannibal Lecter lately (Sounds weird, I know. I KNOW. D:) I decided to dig up my favorite Lecterfic from the bowels of my external hard drive because it's not online anymore. Heck, it wasn't online five years ago when I went looking for it to begin with. I had to email the author and, well... That's beside the point. In digging through my Lecterfic folder, I discovered I had password protected the bloody files. Gah! So, yeah, here's to hoping I didn't get too creative with the passwords near the end there and decided to change them from the few I remember using. I can't believe I completely forgot I used to do that. So, cheers to Diana Lecter, who wrote some of my favorite Lecterfic back in the day, but is proving hard to track down even on my own hard drive.

There's such an odd sense humor in the fics in this fandom that I've almost forgotten about. I miss it. Take Hannibal Family Values, for example. Completely absurd, but I remember laughing out loud over the absurdity. There are a couple of quotes from it in the old Visionary-top-33-quotes-of-whatever-the-heck-year-it-was list that are what made me read the story to begin with. Such as:

        26. “ `Excuse me, but I think my employer eats people.´ “

        30. “ ‘I'm going to take the autopsy saw out of the picnic hamper’ he
        snapped. ‘We  have company.’ “

       33. "He flung his star-tipped wand aside and made a mad lunge for the camera.”

I don't know. Maybe I have a weird sense of humor. Now I need to go to bed.

ETA: Well, would you look at that? I found the illusive Visionary fanfic site. Gee, that would have come in handy for the [livejournal.com profile] fangirl_tour. It's still hell to navigate, though.

I can't promise this is at all coherent, but here goes nothing. ;)
