What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Boston

You definitely have a Boston accent, even if you think you don't. Of course, that doesn't mean you are from the Boston area, you may also be from New Hampshire or Maine.

Quick question. How, exactly, would one pronounce 'cot' or 'caught' so they did not sound the same?

i'm thinking maybe... if you were from NY "caught" would be that weird back of the mouth "a" sound, similar to a Boston "cart"... but yeah I was looking at it going, wtf?

Ahhh, trying to figure it out makes my head hurt. I understand 'merry,' 'marry' and 'Mary,' but some of the others... I don't know. I guess I'm used to my own semi-British influenced accent. Dropping the 'r' sounds much better on a Brit than a Bostonian, though.

"au" sounds like "aw" or at least it does for "caught" in New York, being from New York. When I read that I was wondering how exactly they could sound the same.

Heh, yeah, I figured people from different regions would have exactly the opposite problem as I did. I am from Boston and, to me at least, 'cot' and 'caught' sound the same. It's strange that New York and Boston accents can be as different as they are when they're so close. I can imagine the difference now, spelled out like you did. Thank you very much, because I was having a pretty darn difficult time wrapping my mind around it. :)
